Dorothy Ellen (Bird) Benson

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy on Sunday May 5, 2019 in her 97th year at the Bella Senior Care Residence. Beloved wife of the late William Benson (2002). Loving Mom of Jim (Laurie) and Patti Resch (Brian). Dear grandma of James (Sara), Marissa (Shannon), Janelle (Eric), Corbin (Devin). She will also be sadly missed by her great grandchildren; Brenna, Henry, Lilli, Ryder, Jacoby, Oliver and Vivianne. Dorothy will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Predeceased by her brother James Bird (Alice).

Dorothy will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humour, and her kind and generous heart. She was a founding member and past president of the Niagara Women's Club. She was a former member of the Kitchener Street United Church, spending many years as part of the choir. She also spent many years volunteering in the community, especially within various seniors' homes. Dorothy was an avid reader, crafter and she enjoyed keeping busy. Dorothy and Bill spent many years camping with dear friends and family in the Amish Hills of Western New York.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to all the kind staff at Bella Senior Care Residence (Lundy's Lane 2nd Floor), especially nurses Brenda, Jennifer, Ann and Caitlyn. A special thanks for making her final years enjoyable and her final hours comfortable.

A private celebration of Dorothy's life took place on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at HETHERINGTON & DEANS FUNERAL CHAPEL, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery. Online tributes may be shared at www.hetheringtonanddeans.com.
