CARMELITE REVEREND JORDAN ROONEY DIES (November 20, 2015; Darien, IL) The Carmelites mourn the death of the Reverend Jordan Rooney, O. Carm., who died at the age of 88 on November 20, 2015, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Visitation for Fr. Jordan will be held at the main chapel of The Monastery of Mt. Carmel in Niagara Falls, Ontario on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 2 PM until 6 PM with the Funeral Mass celebrated at 7 PM. Burial to follow on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Carmelite plot at the Our Lady of Peace Cemetery . A Memorial Mass will be held at the St. Thérèse Shrine on the Carmelite Campus at 8501 Bailey Road, Darien, Illinois, 60561 on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 7 PM. Jordan was born to (the late) James Joseph Rooney and (the late) Ann (Howe) Rooney. His given name at baptism was John Joseph. He is survived by his brother Timothy Rooney, his nieces and nephews, and his Carmelite Family. He professed first vows in 1948, taking the religious name of Jordan. On August 15, 1951, he made his solemn profession with the Carmelites and was ordained a Carmelite priest on 1954. His first assignment was as a member of the faculty at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois. He went on to serve in several parishes and schools in Kansas, Illinois and Virginia as well as a serving as a chaplain for the United States Navy Reserve. His last assignment was as pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Niagara Falls, Ontario, from 1995 to 2003. He then retired and continued to live at The Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where he remained until his death. May he rest in peace.
