Gertrude Taylor Simon

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Gert on June 2, 2026, peacefully at the age of 88. Gert is reunited with her husband Frank (2023) as well as her beloved daughters Patricia (2025), Donna (2025) and Joanne (2015).

She was also the loving mother to Cindy, Kathy (Gino), sons-in-law Rick and Alex.

Cherished Nana to her grandchildren Krista (Michael), Louis (Guylaine), Amanda (Bradley), Suzy, Brittany (Joe), Richard (Jenny), Joshua, Gino (Liz), Frank (Cassie), Margaret (Simon), Olivia (Eddie) and great grandmother to Jonathan, Gavin, Violet, Brock, Kathlynn, Xander, Ayla, Holden and Ocktavia.

Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Gert came to Canada at the age of 14 from her home in Montrose, Scotland. She worked as a Bell Telephone Operator which she attributed to losing her Scottish accent. She met and married Frank shortly after arriving in Canada, beginning a marriage that spanned 67 years; a life many can only dream of. Building a wonderful family and memories that will long survive her.

Gert and Frank lived many years on the Niagara Parkway, where many fond memories were made with family and friends. Sundays were always reserved for BBQs and dinners at their house.

Gert could be often be found sitting on her veranda listening to country music, shopping with her grandchildren or gambling at the casino.

Gert was incredibly proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was often bragging about their achievements to anyone who would listen. Gert was always checking in on her family making sure she was on top of their business.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, staff and volunteers at Chippawa Creek at Bella Care Residence. Gert was truly loved there.

Friends are invited to Patterson Funeral Home in Niagara Falls; visitation on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 9:30-11:30am. Funeral Service to celebrate her life will take place at 11:30am; Interment will follow at Lundy's Lane Cemetery.
