Gilda Squario

After a life well lived, Gilda passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on August 11 at the age of 100. Gilda is survived by her daughter Mary (Bill Hamilton), nephews Larry and David Centa, niece Leslie Samson (Paul), and lifelong friend Olga Bombassaro. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph Squario (2003) and brother Luigi Centa (2010). Gilda was the daughter of Luigi and Mary Centa, born in Donkin Cape Breton. She was a Cape Bretoner at heart and her best memories were of growing up there. The family moved to Niagara Falls in 1953, where she worked for many years. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, sunny outlook and resilience. Special thank you to her goddaughter Anne Marie Bombassaro for her kindness, care, and ‘always being there’. Thank you to the staff and residents at Queenston Place for providing a caring second home for the last 11 years.

The family will receive friends and family at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main Street, on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a funeral service to follow in the chapel at 1 p.m. Private interment will follow.
