The family of Jean Shanks Allan Hunter Blair announces her peaceful passing at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the age of 95. Born August 20, 1931, in Airdrie, Scotland, Jean made Niagara Falls, Ontario, her home after she immigrated here with her family in 1952, and later followed by her boyfriend, Alex Blair.
Jean was the cherished and devoted wife for 70 years to the late Alexander Blair, who passed away in 2024. Alex and Jean were married on June 20, 1953, and raised three children. She was the beloved mother of Alan (Ada) Blair, Carol (Len) McRae, and Janice Hines (Pete Chernecki), and a cherished nana to Ryan and Tayna Blair. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jean worked part time at a drugstore in the Niagara Region until her retirement. In the years they shared, Jean and Alex travelled extensively and saw a good part of the world, bringing back wonderful memories that stayed close to the heart. She found joy in bowling, and golfing, and especially enjoyed playing Euchre at the McBain Centre. Jean also volunteered her time with various organizations. She treasured time spent socializing with friends and family, often with a glass of wine.
The family would like to thank River Road Retirement Home and the Brock Line Nurses at Greater Niagara General Hospital for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place.
