Aged 94 of Niagara Falls, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2026. John was born in Fort Erie, and raised in Port Colborne. After aerial surveying across the country at Kenting Aviation, John worked for 36 years at Consumers Gas (Enbridge). John brought his love of art and carpentry into every hobby/project he touched. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing, and telling stories and jokes with his family and friends. John was an avid reader who travelled through his books. He was a fun-loving, caring, kind-hearted person who always put his family and friends first. His famous Saturday Night Pizza will be missed.
John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen; dearly loved daughters, Cathy Litschko (Paul), and Karen Laccheo (Mario); treasured grandchildren, Jordan, John, Kayla and Sarah; cherished niece, Laura Potalivo (Michael), and his nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces. John was predeceased by his nephew, Mark Thomas; parents, Joseph and Maria; and siblings, Anne, Joseph and Margaret.
A heartfelt thank you to the Dr. Velji (father and son), the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Niagara Health System for their excellent care and attention over the years, and a special thank you to the ambulance, fire, and police whose compassion and professionalism were so appreciated.
Friends may call at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main Street, Niagara Falls on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 4673 Victoria Ave., Niagara Falls, on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Rite of committal will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
