Returned home to God on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in his 87th year. Loving husband to Nancy of 62 years. He will be missed by his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark & Maria; and John & Heather. Grampa will also be missed by his grandchildren; Michael, Katherine, Liam and Eileen. Joseph was the son of the late Mark & Wanda Solomon and brother of the late Paul & Dolores Hlady. He will also be remembered by his many cousins in the Niagara and Western New York areas.
Joseph has been a member of St. Patrick’s Parish since 1939 and held a variety of positions as a member of the Niagara Falls Knights of Columbus, Hennepin Council 1652 and as Faithful Navigator of Fr. Hennepin Assembly 1831. He worked for the Niagara Region for over 25 years as the Superintendent of Facility Management. Joseph was a man of deep faith and quiet integrity, whose thoughtful nature and lifelong passion for history reflected his curiosity about the world and the stories that shaped it. Above all, he was devoted to his family, whose love and happiness were at the heart of his life. He will be remembered for the wisdom he shared, the values he lived by and the lasting love he gave so generously.
His family will receive friends at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main Street, Niagara Falls, Ontario on Monday, September 7 from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, Niagara Falls, on Tuesday, September 8 at 11 a.m. The rite of Committal will take place at Fairview Cemetery following the Mass.
