Born in Guelph, Ontario, on May 15, 1951, to the late Don and Eunice Ritchie, Larry made Niagara Falls his home for the last 50 years. A dedicated and respected public servant, Larry proudly served the community as a Captain with the Niagara Falls Fire Department over a distinguished 32-year career.
Beyond his commitment to public safety, Larry was a man of deep curiosity and diverse passions. He found joy and tranquility in gardening, was an avid enthusiast of ancestry and gemology, and loved setting sail on cruises to see the world. Above all else, Larry possessed a generous spirit, always caring deeply and stepping forward to give or help anyone in need.
Larry will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 52 years, Janice Ritchie. He was a proud and loving father to Don (engaged to Ingrid Heide), Kevin (husband to Katie), Laura (wife to Brandon), and Mark. He was also a cherished "Grandad" to his grandchildren: Julia, Eric, Abbigail, James, Elizabeth, Sam, and Brianna.
He is now reunited with his parents, Don and Eunice, and his late sister, Sharleen. He is survived by his siblings Edward, Carol, and Jack.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation at Patterson Funeral Home (6062 Main Street, Niagara Falls) on November 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service to celebrate Larry's remarkable life will follow in the chapel at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Salvation Army Family Services St. Catharines. Larry's memory, keeping his lifelong tradition of helping others alive.
