NERO, Maria (nee Roperti) - Passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Thursday July 15, 2021 at the age of 85. Dearly beloved wife of 64 years to Gaetano 'Guy' Nero. Loving mother of Rosemarie Nero (Dave McDonald), Antonio 'Tony' Nero and the late Rita Goldfinch. Cherished Nana of Clarissa Goldfinch, James Goldfinch, Melissa McDonald, Michael McDonald, Matthew Nero (Beth), Alex Nero and Adam Nero. Dear sister of Luigina Boholy (Joe) Angelina Serra (Vincenzo), and cherished sister-in-law of Diamante Roperti, Italia Nero, Raffaela Vescio (the late Mario), Rosaria Aurora (the late Benito), Florence Nero (Domenic) and Nicola Vaccaro. Predeceased by her brothers Giovanni Roperti (the late Maria), Pasquale Roperti, and Fiore Roperti as well as her brother-in-law Francesco Nero and her sister-in-law Maria Vaccaro. Maria will be fondly remembered for her exceptional work in the kitchen, serving thousands of people at Paesano's Restaurant. Her family learned compassion, kindness, generosity and the love of food from her. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses on Unit C at GNGH for their compassionate care. Respecting the restrictions of COVID-19, including the requirement for face coverings and maximum occupancy levels, friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Sunday 6 pm to 9 pm. A private Funeral Service will be celebrated Monday at the funeral home, with the Rite of Entombment to follow at Fairview Mausoleum.
