Mario Romano

April 27, 1946 – August 6, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Romano, in his 81st year, who peacefully entered eternal rest, surrounded by his loving family on August 6, 2026, finally ‘going home’.

Mario was born on April 27, 1946, in Ferrarisi, Benevento, Italy. He was the beloved husband of Josephine (Nave) for nearly 56 years, devoted father of Maria and John, and proud grandpa to Chandler.

He was the son of the late Giovanni and Maria Romano and son-in-law of the late Giovanni and Gelsomina Nave. Mario was predeceased by his brother Nicola (late Ida, late Italia) Romano of Italy, his sister Angela (late Giuseppe) Nave of Australia, his sister Mafalda (late Vito) Palladino of Italy, and the late Elda and Elda Romano, sisters who passed before his birth. He is survived by his sister Giovanna (Carmine) Nave, and his brother Antonio (Angela) Romano of Niagara Falls.

Mario was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy, and Australia, and a dear friend to many whose lives he touched.

Mario worked many jobs throughout his life, always with dedication and pride, eventually retiring from Dana Canada after 34 years of service. Among the many experiences he cherished, he often reminisced about his time spent in the Air Force and his years in Switzerland working as a golf caddie. These memories remained special to him and reflected his love of new experiences, hard work, and the many places and people that shaped his life.

Mario had a true love for life and found joy in the simple and meaningful moments shared with family and friends. He loved gardening and landscaping, wine-making, golfing, spending time outdoors, and playing with and walking his beloved grandpup Chandler. He enjoyed many hobbies and always found a reason to be outside, where he could spend hours caring for his garden, sharing the fruits of his labour, working with his hands, and appreciating the beauty around him.

A passionate sports fan, Mario especially loved cheering on his favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays, and treasured attending their games.

His warmth, generosity, kindness, humility, and hardworking spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Walker Cancer Centre and Marrotta Family Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Mario during the last two years.

A special thank you to his beloved and devoted medical team: Dr. Robert Clayden, Dr. Kathleen Quinn, and Dr. Winnie Chan, as well as nurses Mary, Briar, Jackie, and Jocelyn, for their dedication, kindness, and support.

Another special thank you to PSW Nadine and Nurse Elise for caring for Mario with such compassion and providing comfort during his final moments.

Special thanks are extended to Father Greg Schmidt and Monsignor Fr. Hugh Gibson, trusted pastors and friends of Mario and his family throughout the years, who were beside him and his family in his final days. Special thanks also to Fr. Stephen Innamorati his daily visits and blessings while in hospital.

Lastly, Mario’s family is eternally grateful to all extended family members, neighbours, and friends for their calls, visits, prayers, words of encouragement, food, and expressions of sympathy during this difficult time — especially his ‘coach’ Antoinette and his ‘cheerleader’ Lisa, whose love and support meant so much.

Mario fought the good fight and is now at peace with his Lord.

The family will receive family and friends at Patterson Funeral Home 6062, Main St., Niagara Falls, ON, on Sunday, August 9th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, August 9th at 2:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Scapular Church, 6557 Thorold Stone Rd., on Monday, August 10th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Rite of committal to follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery.
