Mary Rose Dion

Mom passed peacefully in her sleep at Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara On The Lake, Saturday, July 1, 2023. Born in Niagara Falls 98 years ago, the daughter of William and Vera (Sims) Burns. She enjoyed a long and meaningful life. Widowed all too early at age 35, she raised four children with great love and gentle guidance.

Mom worked for Bell Canada for 34 years (though the original plan was only for 1). Upon retirement, she was pleased to be able to deliver Meals-on-Wheels for 25 years. She enjoyed Yoga classes and volunteered helping with Yoga for people with disabilities. Among her many pleasures were reading, knitting, hot air balloons, gardening and attending musical theatre and drum corps shows. She loved to travel and was happy she was able to do so. Her times best spent were with her family and many friends.

Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Daniel Dion (1960), her sons David (2013), and Daniel (Bud) (2019), her brother Harold (Deanna) Burns (2009) and her sister-in-law Lois (Jack) Burns (2015). Loved and deeply missed by her daughters Kathryn Stewart and Candy (Ed) Chafe, grandchildren; Kim (Brad) Pask, David (Christina Doan) Stewart, William (Wendy Bock) Stewart, Ken (Wendy Beam) Stewart, Steven (Nicole) Stewart, Stacey (Tim) Greenfield, Dani Dion, John (Edyta Tyszkiewicz) Dion, Adrian (Amanda DaSilva) Dion, Andrew (Tina Mayfield) Dion, Craig (Kelly) Healy, Brandy and Kerry (Denis Berube) Garrett. Plus many, many "greats". Also missed by her brother Jack Burns, her sister-in-law Deanna Burns, her niece Betty (Bob) Warner and her nephews John (Sandra) Burns, Michael (Sharon 2016) Burns and Randy (Gillian) Burn.

We all have so many beautiful memories of mom, nana, big-nana (big not by size, by importance).

We wish to thank all the staff of Upper Canada Lodge for their wonderful care of mom during her stay with them.

Visitation at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A Service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Burial of ashes to follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery, Niagara Falls.
