With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Michelle Poot on Friday, March 6, 2026, at her home in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Michelle was born on January 4, 1952, in Nelson, British Columbia. The eldest of eight children, she spent her early years with her parents, Ray and Bea, and her brothers and sisters.
When Michelle met Ben, a spark was instantly ignited, beginning a beautiful and loving partnership that would last a lifetime. Michelle and Ben cherished the life they built together and their three beloved children: Kimberly, Michael, and Sarah.
Michelle was known for her gentle nature, quiet strength, and deeply caring heart. She showed compassion and kindness to everyone she met. A natural nurturer, Michelle’s love and devotion to her family carried her through many complex challenges. She created a warm and loving home where her daughters, Sarah and Kimberly, thrived despite significant health challenges. After the heartbreaking loss of Sarah in 2021, Michelle and Ben continued to support one another and lovingly care for Kimberly. They enjoyed spending time together as a family, often going on drives and visiting relatives and friends along the way. Michelle will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Bernhard “Ben” Poot; her children, Kimberly Poot and Michael Poot (Katherine); and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Sarah Poot (2021). Michelle is also survived by her siblings: Tom Brown (Sharon), Donnie Brown (Lise), and John Brown (Maureen). She was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Bea; her infant twin sister, Patricia; her sisters, Roberta Aljoe (Darrell) and Ellen Seeley (2019) (Charles, 1982); and her brother, Larry Brown (2025) (Linda).
Michelle will be greatly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews as well as brother-in-law‘s and sister-in-law‘s and extended family, too numerous to count!
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, March 13 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, March 14 from 12:00–1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. All services will take place at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main St., Niagara Falls, ON L2G 5Z9.
Cremation will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michelle’s memory may be made to either the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family encourages those wishing to donate to choose whichever cause is most meaningful to them.
