Phyllis Hilkka Wheeler

Passed away peacefully at the GNGH with family by her side on October 4, 2026 at the age of 94. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Frank (2015) and son Douglas (2021). She is survived by sons David and Daniel (Carrie). She will be missed by her loving grandchildren Kaylen, Seth, Nathaniel, Ryah, Patrick and Rebecca. Also sadly missed by Sue Wheeler and Tracy Hope. Phyllis was born on May 22, 1932 in Port Arthur, Ontario to Finnish immigrants Lauri and Elli Jarvi. She lived a happy childhood in Nipigon, Ontario, then as a young woman, moved to Toronto where she met her future husband Frank. The family moved to Niagara Falls in 1968. Phyllis worked hard to attain a University Degree later in life. She became an ESL teacher, a job she loved and had many fond memories of her numerous students. Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements entrusted to Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel in Niagara Falls. The family will receive visitors at Stamford Lane United Church, 3855 St. Peter Avenue, Niagara Falls on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 10:00 am with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 am followed by refreshments at the Church Hall. Family interment at a later date. To honour Phyllis’ love of reading, if desired, memorial donations to the Niagara Falls Public Library would be appreciated.
