Barbara was born on March 24, 1930 in Providence, RI to Edward and Joan O'Rourke. She attended Salve Regina College in Newport, RI graduating in 1951 and continued on to graduate in 1962 from Boston University where she obtained her Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling. After retiring she worked for several years as an organ teacher in the New London/Old Saybrook stores of the former Clavier Music Co. She also served as Executive Director of the former contact of Southeastern CT, a crisis hotline agency. For over 20 years she was a volunteer organist at the East Lyme Senior Center and for 19 years was the same at Bridebrook Health Center in Niantic. In 2005 she established a scholarship in her name at Salve Regina University to assist a graduate of the university to pursue a Master's Degree in rehabilitation at Salve. She was a proud parent of numerous animals and took pride in donating to many organizations benefiting animals.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents. She was an active member of her community and will be missed by many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11 AM in St. Agnes Church, 16 Haigh Ave., Niantic, CT 06357. Burial will take place in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
