OBITUARY

James Joseph Sullivan

30 September, 197128 January, 2021

Niantic — James Joseph Sullivan, more affectionately known as, Jim, Jimbo, or Sully, 49, of 102 Hillcrest Road, Niantic, was at home Jan. 28, 2021, when he was unexpectedly promoted to glory. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Born Sept. 30, 1971, at Lawrence + Memorial in New London, to Donna and James Sullivan and was raised by Donna and Bob Sullivan in Niantic. He went through the East Lyme school system and was a Viking through and through. He was a very active guy and enjoyed baseball, softball, bowling, golf, fishing and racquetball. But for Jim, no sport could hold a candle to football and his diehard love for the Minnesota Vikings was evidence of that. He worked as a lead for IBM. After a short-lived retirement, during which Jim spent his time walking his dogs, feeding the birds and squirrels and spending time with his nieces and nephews, he went to work for family at Scott’s Farmstand in Old Saybrook. After being in the tech industry for so long, he thoroughly enjoyed this slower pace and outdoor air. Wherever Jim was, he brightened the room, was always looking for the fun in the situation, and was forever ready for an adventure! Whether river rafting, skydiving, flying to Minnesota to watch the Vikings play, seeking out the best roller coasters or driving the coast of California, he was game. As a young teen, Jim trusted Jesus as his personal Savior. He knew that despite his own shortcomings, he would spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus. We are blessed to have the assurance, also knowing that this is not the end and we will one day see him again. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.” However you referred to him — Jim, James, Jimbo, or Sully — we know that he would want you to know that you can trust Jesus also and one day be with him and his Savior. Jim is survived by his parents, Bob and Donna Sullivan; his sister, Michelle Chappell, her husband Darrell, along with their six children: Abbey, Hudson, Emma, Jackson, Quinn and Calvin: his sister, Kerri Sullivan, and her four children: Steven, Jordan, Sophie and Cruz; his brother Rob Sullivan and his daughter Kayla Sullivan; as well as his beloved dogs, Bibbles and Rylie. He is predeceased by his biological father James Sullivan. Fulton-Theroux will be handling all burial procedures. No formal ceremonies will be planned at this time. An outside memorial will be considered when the weather permits.

My wife and I used to walk with him at the beach. He loved his dogs!!! He would always make sure to stop when meeting people and make conversation. Last time we saw him we caught a sunset at his favorite spot overlooking the beach. We will remember him there!!! He was a very special person. Love and prayers to his family. I will always remember Jim. He was so handsome and had a great sense of humor. He arrived to pick up my daughter for the prom. However he did not wear a tuxedo but came bare chested with a black bowtie around his neck! He was also a good friend of my son, Matt. Hopefully Matt is with him now and they can rehash some great memories.

I have been great friends with Jim since Junior High. We ran into each other and would talk forever. I just walked with him at Rocky Neck about 2 weeks ago. He had the best laugh and smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
He will always be in my heart... a beautiful soul.
( I always ran into him, buying his mom ginger ale. )♥️
