

New London- Justin Morgan Layden, 86, of Niantic, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. Mr. Layden was a member of Local 478, Operating Engineers working at Millstone as well as operating his Mac Tools business. He is survived by his loving wife Judy Layden, children Valerie (Lawrence) Langer of Jupiter, FL, Sharron (Douglas) Stebbins of Killingworth, CT and Judy (Timothy) Orefice of Westbrook, CT and 8 Grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Patricia and (Ellsworth) Whiting of Lakeland, FL.
He was predeceased by his daughter Marcia (James Ethan) Whitney and brothers Harold Tristram Layden, Donald Layden, sisters Pearl Pink, Janice Martingano and Joan Layden.
Mr. Layden was born on November 5, 1928 in Old Saybrook the son of Harold and Harriet (Morgan) Layden. He served in the US Navy in WWII and was honorably discharged. He married Judy Brailey in 1956 in South Carolina.
His work with the Operating Engineers brought them to Niagara Falls, NY and Carpenteria and Ventura, CA. He and his loving wife Judy had the pleasure of traveling to the Caribean and loved making an annual trip to Chincoteague, VA. In later years, he was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Niantic Community Church and served as a deacon, and a member of the maintenance committee. He also was the head of maintenance for Old Lyme schools.
A Memorial Service will be held at Niantic Community Church on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2:00pm. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Niantic is handling the arrangements.
