Mary was born on Dec. 31st 1932 in New London, CT. to Harold and Marion Cornet.
She was predeceased by six sisters, Irene, Anna, Lorraine, Marion, Gwendolyn and Pearl and one brother Harold.
She was raised on Roxbury Rd. in Niantic and went to Niantic Center School and Chapman Technical High School.
Mary met Bob, her future soulmate, on a visit to the farm where he lived and worked.
They dated and were engaged until he was called to service in the Army, and were then married July 30, 1950. Mary and Bob moved to Georgia, until he was shipped overseas. Mary returned to Niantic and resided with her in-laws until her husband was released from service in 1952. They became lifelong residents of Niantic, building their own home and raising their family.
She worked at the Niantic Theater as a cashier, at the East Lyme Jr. High as a cafeteria worker, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in the records department, as well as a bartender at many establishments.
She was a volunteer in both the Niantic Fire Department and East Lyme Police Department Women’s Auxiliaries. She managed the Niantic Motor Lodge in East Lyme and helped her husband run the Niantic Fuel Company.
In 1987 Mary and Bob and their son Bob established Broga & Son Fuel Co. Inc. which they owned and operated. During this time she also worked at the Michaels arts and crafts store in Waterford.
Mary was an avid Red Sox Fan. She loved animals, crafts, gardening and bowling.
She was a giving person to her town and community by her involvement in Care and Share, The East Lyme Senior Center, and as a chairwoman for the East Lyme Commission On Aging.
Always putting others needs before her own, she lived her life always giving, bringing the family together for the most memorable holidays and family events. She was not only a wonderful mother to her own children, but a mother to many.
She is survived by her son, Robert Paul Broga of Niantic, CT., her daughter Carolyn and her husband Frank Dykes of Middletown Springs, VT, her daughter Brenda and her husband Donald MacRae of New London, CT. and her niece Anne Viens of Waterford, CT. She enjoyed her four grandchildren, Coralee Tumielewicz, Thomas W. Barnes III, Tracy Anne Arner, and Robert Paul Broga Jr. and her great-grandchildren Kaylee Ann Merolla, Samuel Merolla, Jamie Dean Arner, Lucien Merolla Jr., Madelynn Renee Barnes and her nieces and nephews.
Mary was, and will always be, the heart of our family. She is reunited with the love of her life at last. She will be dearly missed by all.
Love you Mom, you will be in our hearts forever, until we are together again.
