John William Kappel

Husband of Ernestine Robert Kappel, father of Kurt Kappel and wife Lisa Rana, Todd Kappel and wife Marlena Kappel, and Joni Moss and husband Brian Moss, and the grandfather of Brock Kappel, Seth Kappel, Georgia Moss and Nora Moss. He was also uncle to 23 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Katharina Kappel.

Native of Mineola, New York, he graduated from Peekskill Academy, served in the United States Navy, was a Korean War Veteran, and got his mechanical engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. Upon graduation, he worked for GM, and then for Boeing on the moonshot project in New Orleans, where he met his wife of 56 years. They lived in East Hampton, NY for 16 years, where he was a volunteer firefighter and member of the VFW. In 1981, they moved to Ama, LA. He was a resident of Ama for over 40 years and was active in the community. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, volunteered often within the community, and was a friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved his family, golfing, and playing cards with his buddies. He always had a joke ready and could make anyone laugh. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at St. Marks Catholic Church, 10771 River Rd. Ama, LA. Visitation will be held from 10AM – 11AM with a Mass to begin at 11AM.
