Shirley Mary LeBlanc Naquin, a native of Paincourtville and resident of Destrehan, LA, passed away on April 29, 2026, at the age of 92. Shirley was a devout Catholic, a cherished wife, beloved mother of ten, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She graduated near the top of her class and forfeited a scholarship to LSU to marry her high school sweetheart, Irvin Naquin, and to begin raising her family. To say she gave unselfishly is an understatement. She never asked for “more”, but gave her time, her talents and her love wholeheartedly to others. Her faith in God was unwavering and served as a rock for her through challenging times. She so often said “I leave it in the hands of the Lord,” and truly trusted in His plan for her.
Shirley loved dancing and music. She shared stories of her youth where she and Irvin would dance for hours. She was a member of the St. Lawrence the Martyr and St. Charles Borromeo church choirs and River Parish Community Chorus. One of her proudest moments was being selected as a choir member to sing for Pope John Paul II during his visit to New Orleans in 1987. Shirley also was an avid candy maker, devoting 50+ years making pralines, fudge and other confections to raise funds for schools including St. Lawrence, Archbishop Chapelle, Archbishop Rummel and St. Charles Borromeo. In recognition of her faith and service, she was honored for with the Order of the St. Louis Medallion. After her youngest was in school, Shirley wanted to experience career life and worked McDonald’s restaurant for ten years as a hostess, administrative assistant and crew member. She was proud to contribute financially to the household and to play a significant role in funding a new family home. In the last ten years, she continued to demonstrate her giving nature, accompanying Irvin to pray the rosary and visit residents at the Ormond Nursing & Care Center.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Irvin Naquin, Sr., and children David (Pam), Judy, Dennis (Karen), Patrick (Julie), Irvin, Jr., Carolyn Teabout (Earl), Joy Calongne (Joel), Ann Jacobsen (Paul), Sandra Chambers (Jaysen) and John (Julie). She had 24 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Charley and Clara Crochet LeBlanc, and siblings Hilda Rodrigue, Ruby Moon, Annie Russo, Delta Campo, Felix LeBlanc, Lena Jacobsen and Stella Lopez, daughters in law Kelley and Rosemary, grandchildren Donna Siebenthall and Scott Naquin, and great grandson Ashton Siebenthall.
All services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at St. Charles Borromeo (SCB) Church at 13396 River Road in Destrehan. Visitation will be 9:00am–noon followed by a Mass of Christian burial. Entombment will immediately follow in the SCB mausoleum. At 1:30pm, there will be a gathering of family and friends at Jerusalem Shriners, 1940 Ormond Blvd, Destrehan.
