On November 14, 2018 at 4:15 PM, Deacon Ted was called from this life by his heavenly Father to himself. Beloved husband of the late Theresa (Toby) Louque Roussel. Ted was born November 25, 1934 in Wallace, Louisiana and attended elementary and high school in Edgard, Louisiana and graduated from Martin Behrman High School in Algiers, Louisiana. Ted also attended Tulane and Loyola Universities of New Orleans, St. Mary’s Seminary of St. Mary, Kentucky, and Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.
Ted was ordained a Deacon on December 4, 1993 by Archbishop Francis B. Schulte, Archbishop of New Orleans. He served at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, Louisiana and at Holy Family Catholic Church in Franklinton, Louisiana. He also served as Chaplain at the Louisiana State Correction Facility now Rayburn Correctional Center in Angie, Louisiana.
He was a resident of Destrehan, Louisiana from November 4, 1967 until the time of his death. Ted is survived by his six children, Danny Roussel (Ann) of Destrehan, LA, Linda Roussel Wimberly (Benjamin) of Foley, AL, Wayne T. Roussel (Candice), Sandra Roussel O’Brien (Matthew) of Destrehan, LA., Debby Roussel Dumas (Dennis) of Lafayette, LA, and Mark A. Roussel (Jeannine) of LaPlace, LA. He is also survived by one sister, Elaine Dugas of Marrero, LA, 21 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Deacon Ted was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Roussel III, parents, Theodore P. Sr. and Elizabeth Roussel, five brothers, Lloyd, Lawrence, Theodore P. Jr., Clifton, and Harold Roussel and one sister, Ann Bowen.
Ted was a third degree Knight of Columbus (Fr. John LeBlance Council of Franklinton, LA) and a former member of Red church Council 3634, Norco, LA, and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus (Archbishop Blenk Assembly 318, Gramercy, LA.)
Ted was also a past captain of the Men of Manresa of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Destrehan, LA.
All parishioners of Holy Family Catholic Church, Franklinton, LA and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, LA and friends are invited for Visitation at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 beginning at 7:30PM until 9:30PM. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 8:30AM until the Funeral Mass at 11:00AM.
Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, and Deacons of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Houma-Thibodeaux, and Lafayette are invited to Concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial officiated by the Most Rev. Gregory Aymond, Archbishop of New Orleans.
Interment to follow in the St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O.Box 187, Memphis, TN 38101-0187 in memory of Theresa (Toby) Roussel.
