Alice Dickason, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother died peacefully on November 8, 2017 at 2:01 p.m. From a playlist of 30 of her favorite hymnals, she was received into heaven while “Going Home” was playing. Alice knew of the connectedness of this life to another – one that is bigger and greater – and she did not fear going to be with her Lord, her husband Bob, her best friend Marie, and others who were received before her.
For those who knew Alice, you knew a kind-hearted, non-judgmental, friendly, sweet person. For those of us who were closest, knew Alice as a mom who was loving, supportive, and warm. She will always be remembered as a mom who would never, ever give up on any of her children and would support their ideas and dreams no matter what.
As a proud military spouse, Alice often managed the family household with four children, alone – as her husband, Bob served deployed. She managed with finesse. When Bob was home, she enjoyed many activities with him including bowling, square dancing, and bingo. Alice welcomed all into her home and the Dickason household was always a place for gatherings for friends and family.
Alice is survived by her four children and their spouses: Bob Dickason (and wife Liz), Deborah Wahlstrom (and husband Mark), Mike Dickason (and Shirley), and Don Dickason (and wife Elizabeth).
She also had numerous grandchildren, some who now have children of their own:
Grandson Bill Dickason and wife Laura, and their children Isabella and Nicholas.
Granddaughter Julia Cognito and her husband James.
Granddaughter Jessica Dickason and Jakeenan WIlliams and their children Jaden, Jordyn, and Mason
Grandson Matt Dickason (and fiancé Madison Stanley)
Grandson Justin Dickason (and Brandon Libonti)
Grandson Ryan Dickason
Alice also leaves behind her beautiful sister, Jackie Gill, and her wonderful brother, Bob McCauley.
We will remember Alice by so many of the positive qualities she brought to life. Alice was absolutely the kindest person we have ever known. She provided the best example we know of leading a truly Christian life, not religious, but very much as Jesus taught. It was her nature to be kind, courteous, giving and accepting of all. That is the legacy she has left for us and for all who knew her. She loved her family so much and her love would look past any wrong when it came to her family. She was always an angel amongst us. And always will be.
The family would like to thank the caring staffs at Georgian Manor in Chesapeake for their exemplary care of Alice this year, and the hospice staff from Westminister Canterbury for their compassion during her final months with us.
A private service for just the family is being held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017. Woodlawn Funeral Home & Cemetery (Norfolk, Virginia) is handling all arrangements. 6329 E. Virginia Beach Boulevard.
