

Betty Jane Vickery, 93, went to be with her Lord, whom she served and loved so much, on August 2, 2014 while in her home of 63 years while with her family. Betty Jane Schooley was born January 2 1921 in Decatur, Il and her family later moved to NYC since her father
OC Schooley had been transferred with the Mueller Co. Her family then lived in different boroughs of NY including the Bronx and Brooklyn and even graduated from Walton High School which was then an all girls High School. She enjoyed many summers during these years with friends and oftentimes went to Lake Zoar and swam and danced into the night. During the years Betty lived in New York Betty would have to take the Subway to Manhattan, where she worked for Dun & Bradstreet and later worked for Guaranty Trust Bank. May 1 1943, Betty married her sailor husband Harvard G. Vickery, whom she met while visiting the ships during fleet week a few years prior. They lived in several locations due to the military including San Diego CA settled in Norfolk, VA where they bought their home, raised their family, and are founding members of Third Presbyterian Church. (Formerly Park Avenue Presbyterian).
Betty was always involved with her church including her circle, the woman’s outreach, the Presbyterian Home… she took pride in knowing
that she made a difference in the lives of the children there…. She loved being around children; was even a cub scout and boy scout mom for several years. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She dedicated her life helping and doing for others. Betty did work for Sears & Roebuck Co for 19 years and retired at age 62. In her retirement, she was an active member of the Sears Retirement Club, Tidewater Twirlers, Norfolk Moose Lodge, The local Garden Club,Third Presbyterian AM Circle. She enjoyed Square dancing, playing
Canasta, good friends and family.
Betty and Harvard spent 52 years together and in that time did make time to travel. They did take a trip around the USA, Canada, went to Hawaii, and Mexico.

Left to cherish her love and memories are: Sons and Daughter in Laws: H. Alan & Carol Vickery, Paul & Brandy Vickery Grandchildren: Phillip, Susan, Stephanie, Courtney Great-Grandchildren: Alexander, Hunter, Bryce, Madison And..Bruno… beloved family dog
The viewing will be Tuesday August 5 from 6-8PM at Smith and Williams Norfolk Chapel Norview Avenue. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday August 6 beginning at 11AM at Third Presbyterian Church on Carlton Street. The burial services are private.
