

David Leroy Williams, 69, a resident of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away on January 1, 2015 at VCU Medical Center. Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Julius and Florence Williams. David retired as Captain Firefighter with 29 years of service with the Norfolk Fire Department. He was co-founder of the United Benevolent Fire Fighters, Inc. – Prometheus Guardians of Norfolk, VA. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1964, attended Christopher Newport College in 1975, Tidewater Community College in 1976, and served in the United States Coast Guard for 18 years and served in the United States Air Force for 3 years.
David received numerous accolades for his leadership, management, and heroism. He was the 1st Black Captain of Firefighters in Norfolk, VA. He is survived by his two daughters, Tarona Williams and Dovia Williams; and two sisters, Juliette Blackwell and Shirley Watson-Rudd.
A visitation will be held on January 8, 2015 at Woodlawn Funeral Home from 6 to 9 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9th at 11:00 am in the Woodlawn Funeral Home with Bishop C. N. White officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodlawngroup.com
