Dorothy P. Mayo

Dorothy P. Mayo, 91, passed away 15 July 2016. Dorothy was born on 11 May 1925 in Alberta, VA. She was preceded in death by her father, George L. Peterson and mother, Mary Belle Palmer; her husband, Claiborne Mayo; her brothers, George and Jessie Peterson; and sisters, Annie C. Short, Pauline P. Mayo and Mary L. Edmonds.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Obie S. Walton and son-in-law Ruffin S. Walton of Chesapeake, VA; three grandchildren, Donovan L. Walton (Sylvia) of Virginia Beach, VA; Sedra M. Spruell (Byron) of Chicago, IL and Stephanie M. Walton of El Paso, TX; four great grandchildren, Donovan Walton II (Camille) of Hempstead LI, NY; Erik J. Glover II; Devyn T. Spruell and Aleah K. Spruell; two great great grandchildren, Chase and Zoe Walton; two step great grand daughters, Whitney and Ebony Torres of Virginia Beach, VA; six nieces, Barbara Fitzgerald of Laurel, MD; Cynthia N. Martin of Boise, ID; Linda Kane and Yvette Jenkins of Plainfield, NJ; Renee Edmonds of Waukesha, WI; Val J. Mayo of Hillside, NJ and Kyle Blake of Waldorf, MD; three nephews, James L. Edmonds of Hillsborough, NJ; Andre Edmonds of Boise, ID; and Reginald Edmonds of Milford, Del. She leaves many cousins, extended family members and her dear friend Annie M. Harris who called her daily to check on her well being.

Dorothy lived a long life, an independent life doing things she enjoyed. She often said she had everything she needed and was thankful for all she had. She was devoted to her family and loved talking about them. The grands and great grands bought many smiles and laughter to her life. She was a spiritual, giving and compassionate person who was loved by all who got to know her. Her memory will live on forever through the lives of those she touched.

The celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday July 19, 2016 at 1PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
