She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandson, Austin. Freida now joins her beloved husband and “love of her life,” Leon, of 39 years in heaven. She was born in Birmingham, AL, and was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Maudie Liner, and her brother, Ricky Liner.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Randy Comstock; daughter, Sherri Lynn Larry (Wendy); siblings Patty Reed (Jim) and Christine Tyer (Robb); brother-in-law Richard Barnett; and sisters-in-law Darlene Donnelly and Jill Comstock. She was affectionately known as “Nina” to her cherished grandchildren, Austin Smith and Kelsey Skinner (Melissa), and her great-grandchildren, Jayden and London. She was also blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Freida enjoyed a remarkable 45-year career with Household Finance in Norfolk, VA, retiring in 2006. She was a devoted member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she actively participated in the food pantry program. She also volunteered at Lake Taylor Hospital, offering comfort and companionship to patients as an escort and visitor.
Freida’s lifelong sense of adventure reflected her determined and resilient spirit. She had a deep love for her cats and was well known for her passion for horses. For many years, she traveled to Chincoteague for the annual pony swim, followed by her cherished beach vacations in Nags Head, where she loved to “bury” her toes in the sand.
Freida and Leon spent many memorable date nights chasing Elvis—a joy that inspired her passion for photography. This discovery led her to capture weddings with her creative vision and ultimately guided her into freelance photography. A hobby that facilitated her collaboration and photo contributions with numerous country artists and WCMS, where her work was widely admired.
She delighted in creating a Christmas wonderland for her family and friends, filling her home with warmth, beauty, and joy. Her decorations were more than displays—they were expressions of love that brought people together and made the season unforgettable.
Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes—and to be practically blunt, if there was a sale nearby, she was already on her way.
Freida also had a remarkable talent for creating photo books and elaborate scrapbooks, turning treasured moments into lasting keepsakes for those she loved.
Above all, Freida adored her family and found joy in every opportunity to be together. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
