

George Kenneth Green, December 29, 1920-December 28, 2011, a resident of Liza's Residential Care passed away peacefully at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital. George was born to the late Myrta and Luther Green in Yates City, Illinois, and was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine (Gerry) Grady Green for 61 years; he is also predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Celeste D. Flemig. He will forever be remembered by his devoted family. He is survived by three daughters, Marsha Wrae Flemig, Mary Kaye Robinson and Kimberly Gay Johnstone (David H. Johnstone), six grandchildren, Martin D. Flemig (Jennifer L. Flemig), Donald K. Robinson, Jr. (Sonia M. Robinson), Kenneth C. Flemig, Whitney D. Robinson, Jay T. Johnstone and Jessica H. Johnstone, three great-grandchildren, Stephanie L. Flemig, Matthew Ryan Burchfield and Urijah M. Robinson, sister Vada Kovachevich, half-brother Gordon Green and sister-in-laws Corrine Harrell and Betty Grady, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him. He graduated from The College of William and Mary. For over thirty-five years he worked as an advertising executive with The Virginian Pilot/Ledger Star retiring from Landmark Communications in 1985. George served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Mason and Shriner during the late sixties and early seventies. He loved art, gardening and woodworking. A viewing will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 6-8pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10am in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The Reverend John Eidam will be officiating the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in George's name to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Norfolk, Virginia.
