Norfolk – Harold S. Webster, 81, went Home to the Lord on January 4, 2011 from his residence, while in the presence of his loving family. He was born on March 5, 1929 in Roanoke , VA to the late Gertrude N. and John D. Webster.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce L. Webster of Norfolk , VA ; Sons, Andrew Webster and wife Alison Webster and Larry Webster and wife Janet Webster; sisters, Barbara Howard, June Tatum and Vivian Byrd. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jonathan Webster, Timothy Webster, Heather Hamilton, Caitlin Webster and Benjamin Webster and one great grandson, Tristian McCourt.
Harold lived a long life, with many years as a Christian. He enjoyed an unfailing sense of humor which he shared with those around him as well as a life long love of music and nature. He loved traveling on the Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway and the Colonial Parkway as well as vacationing with his family in the beautiful mountains of Virginia.
Harold loved his family deeply and unconditionally and was in turn respected and loved dearly by his family. He was always there with a helping hand and his family was always foremost in his thoughts. He took great pride in his grandchildren and loved playing with them and watching them learn and grow.
Harold was a member of Burrows Memorial Baptist Church for many years. A former deacon there, he cherished the House of God and was faithful in attendance and support. Harold was a mechanic who, with two brothers Samuel and Daniel, operated Webster Brother's Service Station on the corner of Indian River Rd. and Military Highway for 43 years until his retirement in 1998. Helping in this business was a "rite of passage" for many of the family children, who earned pocket money doing odd jobs there. Harold was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Korean War, until his Honorable Discharge in 1954.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 11:30 A.M. at Burrows Memorial Baptist Church, 1539 Johnstons Rd. , Norfolk , VA 23518. There will be a visitation, at the church, for one hour prior to the service.
