Jacob (Jake)W. James, Sr., 79, of Virginia Beach, lost his battle with cancer at his home on Friday, August 13, 2010, with many of his loved ones by his side. Jake was born in Portmouth, Va. on June 26, 1931. Jake served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War and with the Air Force in Thule, Greenland. He retired from the Military Sealift Command after over 20yrs of service. A Master Mason, whose home lodge #97 in Newark, Ohio and Khedive Temple Shriner in Norfolk, Va. Jake was also inducted as a living legend in Swing in Virginia Beach. One of his proudest moments came following a hole in one at Stumpy Lake Golf Course in 2008. Preceded in death by his wife, Ramona J. in 2007, parents Hatcher and Hannah, and a brother Hatcher M. Jr. Jake is survived by his children Elizabeth Bryant, Jake Jr., Robin Costello, Joni Underwood, 7 grandchildren, 4 great- grand children, a sister Virginia Sackstien, brother Charles G. and numerous nieces and nephews. A private celebration of Jakes life will be held in the Hampton Roads area at a later date. A Memorial donation may be made to Shriners Hospital.org.
