

Jake was born June 3, 1931 in Norfolk, VA. He was the son of the late Colon Lee Powers Sr. and Ethel Kight Powers. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Powers Whealton.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Judith B. Powers; his brother Colon L. Powers Jr. and his wife Mavis, of South Creek, NC; two sons, James W. Powers Jr. and fiancée Judy Wurstner of Gautier, MS, John D. Powers of Chesapeake, VA; a daughter Jamie K. Fowler and husband Scott of Virginia Beach; and six grandchildren: James, Meredith, Jordan, Melissa, Jessica, and Jay. He is also survived by two great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jake was a graduate of Norview High School. After serving for 4 years as an Instrument Specialist in the United States Air Force, Jake worked for many years in the automotive industry and retired from Green Grifford Motor Corporation as a service manager after 30 years. He was an active member in the choir, a Sunday school teacher, and a youth leader at Ingleside Baptist Church and later was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk. He was also devoted to serving the community, particularly the youth, coaching several athletic teams and volunteering for the Juvenile Court of Virginia Beach. The family would like to thank the services of the Sentara Bridge/Hospice program for their assistance and care.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 14, between 6-8pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, followed by a funeral on Friday at 1pm.
