Kathy (Mae) was born on October 21, 1947 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Charles Dunford and Edna Coates Dunford Gay. Mae was a loving and caring mother to her children, Walter Lee Hanley, Walter Lyle Hanley, the late Cindy Stark, Bobby James Harris, Amy Kinsey and Austin Kinsey.
Mae worked in the food service industry while raising her family. Later in life Mae worked in the cafeteria for Chesapeake Public schools. Mae was a sweet, kind loving soul who enjoyed life. She loved children, especially babies. Mae had many hobbies, she enjoyed watching the Waltons, crocheting, collecting dolls, gardening. Mae loved plants and flowers. She had a green thumb and could revive any plant. Mae had a determination about her that at times seemed stubborn, when she put her mind to a task she would succeed. Mae also was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for the family.
Left to cherish the legacy and memory of Kathy Mae Bowman, her husband of 44 years, Thomas Lee Bowman, her only surviving sibling, Charlotte Silverthorne Goins, multiple sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4pm-6pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 East Virginia Beach Blvd. , Norfolk, Virginia 23502. A funeral service honoring the life of Kathy Mae Bowman will take place on January 5, 2024 at 1 pm at graveside. A funeral will follow within Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. After the funeral a reception will be held at 2402 Pershing Ave., Norfolk, Virginia 23509, for family and friends to gather reminisce, celebrate and honor Mae.
