Mary Joanne McGowan

Mary J. McGowan of Virginia Beach passed away on October 20 at the age of 79. The second daughter of the late James and Marguerite McCormick, she was born in Webster, New York, on December 8, 1939. She graduated from St. Agnes High School in Rochester, worked for Eastman Kodak in New York, and served as a CPA assistant to Garland J. Nichols of Virginia Beach all the way up to her retirement in 2002. A devout Catholic, she attended church regularly at St. Matthews and St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church all the way until her later years. Mary was a devoted wife and mother, raising two children and celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in 2018. She is survived by her husband Dan, her younger sister Casey, her sons James and Michael, and three grand-children and one great-grand-child. She is preceded by her older sister, Elaine. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 28th at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach at 10 a.m. with services to follow at 11. She will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery on E. Virginia Beach Boulevard at 1 p.m with a reception to follow. Arrangements are organized by Woodlawn Funeral Home. Call (757) 455-2838 for more information.
