Nixie Dees

Nixie Eileen Dees, 1925-2024, our Lord called her to heaven July 31, 2024. Nixie was 99 years young, she was an elegant lady. Nixie was born on January 7, 1925 in Little Washington, NC to the late Calvin Bishop and Catherine Sewell McKinney. She was also predeceased by her husband, Oscar Dees, the love of her life. He was a wonderful naval officer. Snoopy her pet always brought Nixie happiness. She is survived by 17 nephews and nieces. Nixie worked for Smith and Weltons as a manager of a beauty salon. She also worked at JC Penney’s, before she started a home business. Nixie was a member of Kempsville Christian Church. Her hobbies were reading, knitting, shopping, traveling, visiting family and friends. She loved celebrating birthday and holidays. Surf Rider was her favorite restaurant. She had many adoring family and friends, she had a life well lived. Her illness began in Princess Anne Sentara then to Lake Taylor and to Sentara Leigh. She tried to retrain her nurses and doctors with her journey ending. Thank you to all the hands and hearts sitters from church and the doctors, nurses and friends and family who have her support.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 2-3pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502. Burial will follow immediately at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens where she will be next to her devoted husband, Oscar. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to a charity of your choice.
