Ofelia Heggen, 75, passed away in Virginia Beach on May 3, 2021. She was born in Texas to the late Ramon and Guadalupe Garcia with her sisters Connie Perez, Elidia Del Bosque, Bertha Rosales and brother Ramon Garcia.

Ofelia can best be described as a loving selfless person; she devoted most of her time to her family and her church family. She was a longtime member of the House of David Church. When she wasn’t there, she was in her shop, Head 2 Toe Hair Salon, working her trade of 46 years as a hairdresser. Ofelia was a pillar of faith, a mother to the motherless, an example of service, a true Christian at heart.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Steven Heggen and Janet Heuneman; grandchildren, Meghan Butler-Buehler, Angel Heggen, Christian Heggen, John Heuneman, Hope Heuneman, Joel Heuneman, and Zachery Heuneman; great grandchildren, Silver, Chevelle, Grayson and Orin as well as a host of other extended family members. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ofelia was the most peaceful loving person I have ever known. I was blessed to work with her and remain friends after I left the shop we cut hair at. Rest in peace dear friend and enjoy the heavens because you are and were a true Angel!❤️👼🙏🏻 My Prayers go out to the family.

Ofelia is best known to be one of the kindest, most gentle people you could be blessed to have in your life. Even when she had struggles to deal with, she was more concerned with passing on loving words of encouragement and prayers to others.

My aunt or as she was known to us, Tia Fela, was one of the most independent and self-reliant people I know. She was a single mom and entrepreneur; and she was loving and religious. She was so much more to me that I don’t have the words. I will miss her terribly. To Steven, Jan and family, my heart and prayers are with you. Love, Yvonne Beckelheimer

Ofelia was always there to listen to and guide me when I had moments of turmoil in my life. She never looked down at me when I was in the wrong but instead taught me to look up. She was forgiving, loving and helpful. I will truly miss her guidance and friendship.

The Good Lord has brought home a true angel. I loved Ofelia and shared many life's stories with her. She was a wonderful friend and a fine hairdresser. I was shocked when I heard she had passed, but grateful for having had the opportunity to have known her. I will miss her and know I will see her again.

I have been blessed to know Ofelia for 26 years. She began as a co worker, but turned into sooo much more. My husband fell in love with her as well. Her Faith in our Lord never wavered. We will Miss her, we will Love her forever. Rest in peace our friend, your worries on Earth are done.

Ofelia was a wonderful friend and truly a blessing to my life. She was my beautician for many years and always willing to help me in any situation. I am thankful she has a perfect body now in heaven for Jesus was her Savior. I will miss her but know I will see her again when my time is over on this earth. I will be praying for her family that she loved so much.

Ofelia was my friend. We have known each other and served the Lord side by side for 42 years. She was generous to a fault and always put others first. She loved her family fiercely and gave much of her life to the community and her church. I will miss her dreadfully. Rest in Jesus, my friend.

I am absolutely shocked at the news of this. Mrs. Heggen was a wonderful, kind and awesome lady. I have known her for 40 plus years. Her son Steven and I were inseparable as teens and I spent more time at her house than I did my own home. She was always welcoming and warm. All the neighborhood kids were at her house all the time. Ophelia would get peeved sometimes and tell us all to go home but never made me go. And what a cook! That lady could throw down in the kitchen!
I made it a point to call her about every 6 months or so to check up on her.. sometimes stopping by her work just to say hello.
She was like my second mother... giving advise, feeding me and being a sweet person even after a hard day on her feet at work.
The world was a much better place with her in it. I will always remember her fondly and have a special place in my heart for her.
My prayers go out to Steven and his family. Rest in peace Mrs. Heggen. You are with the Lord now and exactly where you've always wanted to be.. right beside God.
