
Virginia Beach ~ Raymond Wilhelm Scheidies, born May 5, 1920 in Kenesaw, Nebraska, beloved husband and devoted father, departed this life into the next on September 2, 2007 in Virginia Beach. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Roberta Scheidies; two daughters, Robin Rae McKelvey of Lincoln, NE and Karen Lynn Mulford of Virginia Beach and their husbands, Steven McKelvery and Anthony Mulford; He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Matthew McKelvey, Taryn Raschdorf, Sarah Hopkins, Rory Mulford, Lisa Neddenriep, Rebekah Mulford, and Sam McKelvey. There are also six great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Addison Hopkins, Austin Neddenriep, and Marin, Avi, and Asher Raschdorf. He is also survived by his sister, Anita Rosch and her husband, don, of Hastings, NE. Raymond attended school in Kenesaw, NE but graduated from Hastings High School. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corps during WWII, stationed primarily in Greenland as a weatherman. After receiving his honorable discharge, he was a lifetime resident of Hastings, NE where, among other things, he built up his own construction and real estate businesses. Always seeking to serve his community, he was president of the Optimists, active in the Big Brothers, Youth Little League, Boy Scouts, as well as being a councilman on the Hastings, NE City Council from 1982 to 1994. He was an active member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church until 2004, when he settled in Virginia Beach, where he attended Beth Messiah Synagogue. A service will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 6, 2007 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., with Rabbi Dr. Joseph Rosenfarb officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service on Thursday. A contemporaneous memorial service will take place 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 6, 2007 at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE.
