Rodney F. Hurst

Rodney F. Hurst Sr. age 74 of Norfolk passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday February 5, 2008. Rodney was born in Norfolk on September 18, 1933 the son of the late Otis and Francis Hurst. Rodney worked as a Coal Loader Operator for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad for over 42 years. He was a Christian and a member of The Barn Trinity Tabernacle. Rodney was an "Awesome" Father, Friend,and Husband. He had a wonderful work ethic and was featured on " Joe's Job". Rodney loved gardening and all nature he was a lover of the outdoors, especially the mountains. Rodney was preceeded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years Joan Patricia Hurst, his daughters Susan Chapman and her husband Ray of Oklahoma, Theresa Bond and her husband George of Norfolk and his son Rodney F. Hurst Jr.of Norfolk, a sister Dorothy Sparks and her husband Kenneth of Charlotte, NC, and his grandchildren Kelly, Shane, Ruth and Stephen.

A service to Celebrate Rodney's life will be held on Friday February 8, 2008 at 1:00 PM with Evelyn Puckett officiating in the chapel at Woodlawn Funeral Home 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, Va 23502. the family will receive friends on Thursday February 7, 2008 from 7-9:00 PM at the funeral home.
