

Mama, Ruthlyn Monica Nugent went home to be with the lord on Tuesday, Nov 27th, 2012. She was born to Eugene Nugent and Olga Smith on April 27th, 1945 in Kingston, Jamaica. She attended Shortwood Primary, Papine Secondary High School, and Madam Leon School of Cosmetology. She migrated to the United States in July 1993 and worked at the Founder’s Inn and Conference Center and Community Services of Virginia, Inc. until retiring in 2010. She was predeceased by her father, Eugene Nugent; a sister, Deloris; and a brother, Limbert Nugent. She was a devoted member of Greater Faith Temple Apostolic Ministry where she served on the usher board and was an active member of the women’s committee. Ruthlyn Nugent was a phenomenal woman. Her wit, beauty, love, and devotion were shown through everything she did. She loved her mother and siblings dearly. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She cherished her children and grandchildren to the point of spoiling them in a good way. She was an amazing cook and her homemade ice tea could never be duplicated. Her hospitality, generosity, and willingness to help others were unparalleled. Her doors were always open to those in need. She never complained and always tried to see the positive in every situation. Her favorite phrase was “Not too bad,” which she expressed throughout her illness. Doctors, nurses, and all who came into contact with her admired her tenacity, strength, and willingness to fight and overcome. She will be missed and remembered by a host of family, friends, and church family. She leaves to cherish her memories, a mom, Olga Smith; daughters, Carol Green Reid and Sandra Barrett; sons, Peter Marsden, Dr. Allan Marsden, and Stephen Marsden. She also leaves behind daughter-in-laws, Tomeca Marsden and Denice Marsden; son-in-law, Donovan Barrett; grandkids, Brittany Reid, Yanise Marsden, Leilani Nieves, Stephen Barrett, Haley Barrett, Stephen Marsden, Jr., Iyan Marsden, and Yasmine Marsden; sisters, Curline Nugent, Clarissa Nugent, Patricia Nugent and Sharon Nugent; brothers, Lloyd Nugent and Carl Nugent; and a host of nieces, grand nieces, nephews, and grand nephews.
