

Shirley Fentress Hunt, 76, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2016. Shirley was the daughter of Asa Purnell Fentress and Addie Cannon Fentress. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Civil Air Patrol, the 4-H Club, and the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad-Station 9 and Sunday School teacher. Shirley never met a stranger she didn’t like and was a loving parent. Her spirit would light up a room and she always placed others before herself. A talented crafter and flower lover, she loved to spend her free time bringing life to art. Shirley was preceded in death by Elmore W. Barnes, Jr., Denise L. Barnes, Addie Cannon Fentress and Asa Purnell Fentress.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 9 years, Carroll “Kayo” Hunt; sons, Elmore W. Barnes III, Kenneth L. Barnes, Anthony (and wife Elisa) R. Barnes, Sr.; grandchildren, Savannah and Anthony Barnes, Erin and Janae Barnes, Samantha, Billy, and Joseph Hutchinson and Eric Poster; sister, Joyce Plyler and many special relatives, loved ones and friends.
The visitation will be on Thursday, April 14 from 5-8 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502. The funeral service will be at Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, 1200 Chesapeake Ave, Chesapeake, VA 23324 on Friday, April 15 at 11 AM with interment at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens following the service.
