Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens
Susanna Antonia Perron, 61, passed on to Everlasting Life March 14, 2020, peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She was born in the Philippines to Bonifacio and Adela Milan Fontanilla. She was adopted at the age of 10 by her Uncle and Aunt, Roberto and Teodorica Olarti Milan to be able to immigrate to the United States. She is preceded in death by both fathers and sisters Evelyn and Josephina.
Susan met the love of her life, and husband of 40 years, William “Bill” Anthony Perron on May 7, 1976. Together they created her greatest accomplishment, their beautiful family: Anna Marie, Angela (Andrew DeMeritt), William Robert “Robby”, Christina (Keith Rhodes), and grandchildren Madison and Mason DeMeritt and Christian Rhodes. Susan touched the lives of many people and considered all friends her family.
Susan’s mission in life was to serve and was a devout Catholic and active member of The Church of St. Gregory the Great and the New Creation Community. Her mission was evident every single day through her daily Mass attendance, spiritual leadership, volunteer work, warm hospitality, and constant prayer. She has sponsored numerous candidates in the Rite of Christian Initiation, was a co-teacher in St. Gregory’s Religious Education Program, was a leader of St. Gregory’s Youth Ministry (1986-1989), led multiple small faith and prayer groups, served as a member of the Saint Cecilia’s Choir, volunteered with the Town Center Blind Lions Club, Salvation Army, and The Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank, and graduated from The Well Spiritual Direction Institute as a certified Spiritual Director. Despite her visual impairment from retinitis pigmentosa, Susan never let it become a handicap. She walked by faith, not by sight.
Susan will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life reception will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Town Center Blind Lions Club Scholarship Fund.
