Thomas Hardin Hockett

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cicero and Dorothy (Miller) Hockett of Greenville, IL, his most cherished wife, “Miss Kay” of 53 years and two brothers Jack and Gene Hockett of IL.

Tom was born in Greenville, IL and was the third son of Cicero and Dorothy Hockett of Greenville, IL. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years with service in the Pacific, Korean War and two tours in Vietnam as a proud Seabee and Chief Builder. He dedicated his life to US Government service, retiring from Civil Service in Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, VA after 21 years. He and his wife retired to Grandy, NC where they enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and flower and vegetable gardening.

Left to cherish are his two children, James (Abi) Hockett of Suffolk, VA and Susan (Remy) Alvarez of Virginia Beach, VA and Grandchild Olivia Hockett of Suffolk, VA. He is survived by a host of family including Hockett families in various parts of Illinois and Aida Alvarez, Anna Ernst and Grace Carmines of VA and NC. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Lions Club for the blind and the American Cancer Society.
