

Arvonia- Walter Yates, Jr. went home, to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Walter was born on December 25, 1932 in Norfolk, VA. He was the son of Walter Yates, Sr. and Dorothy Yates. On March 31, 1957, Walter married his “Girl” and the love of his life, Jean. They were married for fifty-eight years. He is survived by his wife, his sons, Walter Douglas Yates, Sr. wife Dawna and Mark Yates wife Lynne, and his daughter, Jeanne Marfio husband Thomas and sister Mary Jones. Walter is also survived by eight grandchildren; Megan, Douglas (Kelsey), Whitney, Tyler (Lori), Lindsay, Benjamin (Alecia), Rainer, and Kristin. Ten great-grandchildren survive him.
Walter was known for his hard work ethic. He retired, after thirty-two years service, from C & P Telephone Company. He and his wife, Jean spent their retirement years enjoying cruises and visiting friends and family. Walter’s life is a testimony to ministry, spreading the word of God. He always had a word of wisdom and a homemade loaf of bread to offer anyone he met.
In celebration of Walter’s life, the family will have a funeral service at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502 at 11:00 AM Saturday March 28, 2015 .
