Anthony (Tony) Thomas DiMicco, age 77 passed away at home Sunday, April 30th. Anthony was born on December 10, 1945 in Queens, King County New York. He had the privilege of being raised by a wonderful Italian family and grew up with 35 cousins close to his same age. They played together every day and caused a lot of trouble together.
Anthony attended Engineering School at New York City University and received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and his Master’s degree in Human Behavior from the University of Oklahoma. Anthony loved OU football and was a Walk-On for the Sooners. He went back to New York and became a Gold Sheild Narcotics parole officer for several years. A psychiatrist who mentored him contacted him about a job opening for a Halfway House Director. He ran two programs; one for adults and one for teens. He was perfect for the job and loved helping people get their lives back together. He wasn’t a fixer but one who showed them how. To this day he still is in contact with many of his clients’. He developed the first Oklahoma Department of Corrections Halfway House contract. He instituted numerous group programs to assist residents with transition from institutional setting to community groups and also created Long-Term Violent Program for the DOC inmates.
Anthony was a wonderful man. He would help anyone who came to him not matter who they were and what help they needed; he was there for them. He would care for people and remain calm and focused. He was a great listener and because of that, he had many lifelong friends that he stayed in contact with. His family and friends were very important to him, and he would do anything for them. His mind was like a computer, he could remember meeting someone and even knew the date and time when they met. He was a man that was larger than life with an infectious smile and a dry wit He used to say “I play bigger than I am”. He had the energy of an old soul. He will be sorely missed by so many.
Anthony will be survived by the love of his life, Shirley Helms DeMicco and brother Ralph DeMicco and countless cousins. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 5th at Primrose Funeral Home,1109 N. Porter Ave, Norman, OK. The family will receive friends from 5pm -7pm. With a Rosary service at 7 pm. A live stream of the service will be available on Primrose website, www.primrosefuneralservice.com.
