Betha Lou (Butler) Flowers was born in Oklahoma City, on June 1, 1933, to Earl Leroy and Margiana (Ward) Butler, and died October 21, 2015, after gallantly enduring carcinoid cancer for more than eight years. Her family was always preeminent in her heart, mind, and soul, and she loved living for them. Preceding her in death were her first husband Harold Bryant, and husband Ovid Flowers; her parents; four brothers: Roy Eugene, Edwin Lon, Earl Dwayne, and Jerald Lee Butler; and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include her beloved friend of nearly 75 years, James Bruehl of Norman; brother Carroll James Butler and Joyce of Wynnewood; sisters Jannell Butler of Oktaha, and Leanna Clayton of Columbia, MO; sister-in-law Martha Butler Kennicut and Bill of Blanchard; her three children, David H. Bryant of Noble, Ralph L. Bryant and Tina of Sterling, Beth Ann Bryant and Kurt Barron of Norman; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and 21-year-old feline bedside companion, Tigger. Also surviving her are step-children Charlie Flowers and Rita, Susie Schroeder, Bobby Flowers and Wanda, Timmy Flowers and SoPok, Johnny Flowers and Denise, Sharon Kay Wheeler and Bill, Donna Pearson and Terry, 17 step-grands, 25 step-great-grands, and two step-great-great-grands.
Beth had many vocations and avocations including Wife, Mother, ”FRIEND,” lunch server at Adair School, Bookkeeper, Mary Kay Consultant, Seamstress, Church Pianist and Organist. As a member of the Norman Round Up Club, she took on many duties. She was good with horses and took Beth Ann on frequent trail rides with the other ladies. Always ready to tackle any home improvement project, for herself or for others, Beth could expertly transform any home space into a new home. And she enjoyed traveling, especially with fellow seniors.
She and Ovid retired to Booneville, Arkansas. While living there, she joined the Extension Homemakers and was involved with community service. “Crafty,” she was skillful at crocheting and needlepoint, very talented at making pine-needle baskets, and as a masterful seamstress she could make clothing for herself, children, and others, and was expertly adept at making curtains and chaps. She loved sport luxury vehicles. She was the first one to care-give to anyone in need. She was ALWAYS a member of a church family, a faithful servant. She will be immensely missed by many.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday October 23, 2015 at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N. Porter Ave. Norman OK. Funeral Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday October 24, 2015 at Primrose Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Cemetery.
