

Dr. Charley Frank Baker, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18 at his home. Charley was born July 3, 1924 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Murry & Ethel Baker. He spent his childhood there and graduated from Poteau High School in 1943. While in high school he was an athlete and won the boxing Golden Gloves Championship. He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation. He was based in Guam as an Air Force gunner and loaded bombs on B-29’s. He attended NE State College, graduating in 1949 with a degree in chemistry. He attended dental school at Kansas City University and graduated with honors in 1953. He practiced dentistry in Wakeeney, Kansas for 8 years, moving to Norman in 1961. He practiced dentistry in Norman, retiring in 1983. He was a charter member of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry Association. He also served as a member of the Rotary Club of Norman. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on dentistry mission trips to Honduras, and two to Bolivia. He also served on mission ministries traveling to China, Israel, and Dutch Guiana. He was president of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Association for 9 years.
Charley was preceded in death by both his parents and two brothers, Orben and Bud Baker. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Gayle, daughter Lysbeth Adkins and husband Scott of Goldsby, son Chuck and wife Diana of Norman, daughter Jennifer and husband Jerry of Blanchard, son David and wife Jimmie of Norman, 12 grandchildren; Allen Bailey, Brandon Adkins, Brett Adkins and wife Tina, Phillip Adkins and wife Monica, Jeremiah Wolf and wife Terry, Lysbeth George and husband David, Sarah Gladhill and husband Blake, Eric Baker, Jenny Baker and Lewis Baker, Megan Hilliary and husband Dustin, Allison Baker, Kelcie Wolf and 11 great-grandchildren; Taylor Adkins, Blake Adkins, Chloe Bennett, Madison Adkins, Cashton Adkins, Gavin George, Raelee Adkins, Evelyn Wolf, Keegan Hilliary, and two more on the way. He is also survived by two brothers, Emill and J.R. Baker, and one sister, Patsy Saucier.
A debt of gratitude and love is owed to Quality Life Hospice, particularly Barbara Benson, Janice Antone, and Cody Cox. Memorial contributions can be made to Quality Life Hospice. Charley Frank was a wonderful husband, daddy, and granddad. Above all, he loved Jesus and his family.
