Clayton Poindexter entered eternal life peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2023, with his daughter, Monica, and grandson, Mark, at his side and in the thoughts and prayers of other family members that could not be there. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law, uncle, friend and employee. He was born August 31, 1930, in Shattuck, Oklahoma to loving parents Pearl and Arthur Poindexter. He grew up in Gage, Oklahoma with his younger sister June. At an early age, he developed severe asthma, heightened by growing up in the Dust Bowl, which led him to start his lifelong passion of playing the trumpet. He graduated from Gage High School where he starred on the basketball team. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. It was there he met his future wife Mary Ann Goodrich as he won her heart on the dance floor and as a trumpet player in an Air Force band. They were married at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church in San Antonio on October 24, 1953. After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force and upon his graduation from the University of Oklahoma, Clayton and Mary Ann settled in Oklahoma City where he was the office manager at Boone & Boone sales until his retirement. He and Mary Ann were blessed with two children, Monica and Alan. He enjoyed working on his cars, playing trumpet on weekends in a band, watching football, traveling, and spending treasured time with family and friends. Clayton lived the last two years as a resident of Arbor House in Norman, where he received loving care and assistance from the staff and enjoyed the company of the many acquaintances he met there.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years Mary Ann, their dear son Alan who left us way too early, sister June Madison and her husband Earl, and brother-in-law Bob Goodrich and his wife Martha. He is survived by his daughter Monica Stasyszen and her husband Rick, adored grandchildren Mark Stasyszen and his wife Crystal, Jeff Stasyszen and his wife Allison, Alex Stasyszen, and Emily Stasyszen and cherished great-grandchildren Gideon, Lee, Ruth, Gloria, and Jonah, brother-in-law Don Goodrich and his wife Patsy, and many loved nieces and nephews and their children. He was so loved and will be greatly missed but will always be in our hearts.
