David was born in Elkhart, KS on March 30, 1940 where he was raised on a farm west of Keyes, OK in the Willowbar Community. David graduated from Keyes High School in 1958. He then attended Barber College in Oklahoma City and after a brief time as a barber he became a truck driver where he spent over 40 years on the road. He ultimately retired from Wal-Mart Trucking with over one million accident free miles and settled in Tonkawa, OK. David loved music and took up songwriting as a hobby composing more than 100 songs before his death. He also served as a volunteer Chaplin at Blackwell Regional Hospital and was a longtime member of Tonkawa First Assembly of God. David was passionate about his relationship with Jesus Christ, he loved serving in his church, and he loved his family. He will be sorely missed.
David was preceded in death by his father and mother, Forest and Nettie Lawson, two sisters, Maxine Lawson and Verlene Williams. He is survived by his wife Verla Lawson, brother, Forest (Mary) Lawson, his children, David (BJ) Lawson, Arlene (Shawn) McGlone, Kelly (Michael) Butler, Brandi (Chuck) Lewis, Amy (Kresh) Pjeshkazini, and Kristopher (Christy) Lawson.
