Dorothea Cecile (Shaw) “Dolly” Rockow was born in Toronto, Canada October 29, 1924 to Cecil Meredith and Maud Marjorie Shaw. She went to be with her Savior Jesus on December 16, 2025 in Moore, OK at the age of 101. At the age of 9 she went to London, England with her mother and grew up there. She completed the 8th grade and was selected to train as a telephone switchboard operator. She worked at the London Telephone Exchange during World War II, many times having to go to a secure bunker during the German bombings of London. Dolly met the love of her life Leonard at a Tea Dance that was put on for the GI’s. Leonard was an MP (Military Policeman) in London with the U.S. Army. He was sent to France for 15 months and returned to London to marry Dolly on February 15, 1945. Dolly came to America on a transport ship for War Brides. They lived first in Willoughby, Ohio, then they moved to a small farm in Dorset, Ohio. Dolly was a homemaker while Leonard went to work as a tool engineer; together they worked the farm and raised their four children. Dolly enjoyed being a homemaker and all that went into making a home for her family. She enjoyed reading and studying, especially her Bible. She found time to study and complete her GED. Dolly enjoyed the farm life and would often reminisce about living on the farm being some of her best memories. They moved to Randleman, NC when Leonard retired in 1979; where they enjoyed retirement on a rural acreage with a pond until he passed in 2003. They were married for 57 years. Dolly moved to Oklahoma in October 2003 to be near her children. A devoted Christian, Dolly was always a member of a local United Methodist Church; she taught Sunday School, VBS, and was active in Ladies Aide (UMW). She became a member of New Life UMC in Moore. Dolly especially enjoyed the senior group, Young At Heart and often told how much she enjoyed her friends and the fellowship. She enjoyed crocheting, making afghans, baby blankets, scarves, and hats for family and friends. Dolly enjoyed watching old movies, travel videos, and music from her time; she always watched the Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday night. She enjoyed singing and listening to the old hymns and had many favorites. She enjoyed writing letters and sending cards; she never missed a birthday or other special occasion. Dolly showed her love for Jesus to all she knew and wanted everyone to know Him as their Savior. She lived a Christian life devoted to her Savior, her husband and her family. A proud mother and grandmother, she loved her children and grandchildren and would tell everyone about them.
Dolly celebrated her 101st birthday in October with her family and friends at Featherstone Assisted Living in Moore, OK. A special thank you to all the Featherstone staff and to Anthem Hospice who cared for her before she passed. Dolly is survived by her 4 children, 2 reside in Oklahoma City; Brian Rockow; Kenneth Rockow and his wife Mary; 7 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; 8 Great Great Grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
