She was born July 15, 1923, to Phelin L. and Ollie Hilda (Hancock) Phillips in Mounds, OK. Dorothy spent her youth in Coweta, OK with many stops in between and she spent the last 46 years in Norman. She was married to her first husband, Marion James Houser from 1942 until his death in 1944. She married her second husband, Charles Vernon (Vern) Robertson in 1952 and he preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, Oklahoma Education Association, the National Education Association and a volunteer with Norman Alcohol Information Center. Dorothy earned a Masters of Education Degree.
As a talented and well liked teacher, counselor, and mentor, Dorothy inspired those around her to follow their dreams. She took pride and personal interest in the accomplishments of her many students. She spent years supporting her husband, Vern, in his high school coaching career and later his work to earn his doctoral degree at OU. She had a lifelong passion for sports, especially Oklahoma Football.
Dorothy especially enjoyed the Summit Sunday School Class at McFarlin Methodist Church. Her passions included learning about her community, the world, its people, its politics, as well as its challenges.
Many things about Dorothy will be missed, but mostly her beautiful smile, unconditional love and affection for her children, family and friends. She was brilliant, beautiful, and as many have expressed, “one of the sweetest women they ever knew”. Her grandchildren said she was “The coolest grandma ever”!
