Irene graduated from Stillwater High School and worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. In Irene’s free time, she enjoyed listening to country music and spending time with family, friends, and her cats.
Irene married Bill Overbey and had their daughter Phyllis. Irene loved being a wife and mother. Phyllis will never forget how her mother taught her to be a Christian and to love animals, especially cats.
Irene was confirmed in a Lutheran Church and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband Bill Overbey, parents Rudolf and Emma B. Friedemann, grandson Spence Newell, nephew Phil Friedemann, and her cats.
Those left to cherish Irene’s memory is her daughter Phyllis Newell (Tommy) of Oklahoma City, her only surviving brother Robert C Friedemann, 2 nephews, 2 nieces, and a host of extended relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Irene’s caregivers Shannon, Kristin, Trevor, and Theresa for all the love and care they gave Irene through her final months on Earth.
A funeral service for Irene will be held Monday, August 14, 2023 from 2:00 PM at St. Luke's Methodist Church, 222 NW 15th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73103.
