

Joan was born on September 17, 1941, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to Herbert Leo Handrigan and Ethel Rita Dolan Handrigan. A proud 1959 graduate of Tolman High School, Joan was a spirited majorette with the Tolman Marching Band, and her love for music, especially '50s hits and classic country, remained a constant throughout her life. Her mother’s influence also sparked her lifelong joy for the sound of the piano.
In 1977, Joan moved from her hometown of Pawtucket to Norman, Oklahoma, where she built a vibrant life centered around family, creativity, and grace. Whether it was gardening, crafting, dancing, or traveling on girls’ beach trips and Disney vacations, Joan embraced each day with a sense of joy and style.
A dedicated and loyal employee, Joan spent her career working in administration and accounting for several businesses including OU, Lexington Assessment & Correction Center, and a family owned real estate company.
Joan will be remembered for her strength, integrity, strong work ethic and loyalty, as well as her kind heart, gentle fun-loving spirit, and impeccable fashion sense, especially her love for high heels. She had a talent for laughter, especially when reminiscing about good times with her loved ones. A perfect day for Joan would be spent surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories over a meal, listening to music, and enjoying the beauty of a well-tended garden.
Joan was formerly married to Roger Corriveau from 1959 to 1974. Together, they raised a loving family. Joan later married Roland Bourdeau in 1976 and they were wed until his passing on June 19, 2020.
She is survived by her children: Christine McKinney (Robert) of Claremore, OK; Lori-Ann Jenkins of Moore, OK; Colleen Brown of Norman, OK; and Todd Corriveau of Norman, OK. She is also lovingly remembered by her stepchildren: Michael Bourdeau (Kathleen) of Massachusetts; Michelle McKinnon (Greg) of Massachusetts; and Noel Bourdeau (Angel) of Florida. Joan was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Courtney Nickerson (Robert Wood), Jessica King (D), Shelagh Williamson, Kaleb King, Everett Snellings, Lindsay Burgess (Aaron), Clayton McKinney (Beatriz), Austin McKinney (Alex), Lauren Nixon (Bradley), Jacob Brown, and Christopher Corriveau; and great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren: Bailey, Aydden, Tobias, Jai, Ryleigh, Sean, Davion, Kayli, Acelynn, and Emma. She is also survived by her siblings: Edward Handrigan of Ely, MN; and Paula Lusignan of Venice, FL; and remembered fondly by her nieces Dawn Lusignan and Katie Goodman and her beloved family friend Karen May.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roland Bourdeau, her parents, her brothers Michael and Terrence Handrigan, and her granddaughter Jessica King.
Joan’s legacy is one of elegance, creativity, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service for Joan will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071. Joan will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 2301 E. Indian Hills Rd., Norman, Oklahoma 73071.
