

He was born December 18, 1945 in Sulphur, OK. He was raised by his grandmother Dorothy Davenport. His parents are Billy Donald and Loretta Mae (Davenport) Johnson. On April 10, 1971 he married Alice Kirschner in Norman.
Robert graduated from Norman High School in 1964 and soon after began serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry above and beyond the call of duty in November of 1966 for actions in and around Ia Drang Valley. He was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. After returning home, he worked as a service station attendant at Gibble Gas in Norman where he met Alice. Then he worked as a brick-layer’s helper for his soon to be father-in-law; and as a temporary mail carrier for USPS, before being employed by TAFB; first at the commissary and later as a B-52 aircraft mechanic. Robert retired in 2003 as a Lead Industrial Engineering Technician in the B-52 Planning Office. He enjoyed spending time with his co-workers on the job and on planned activities including fishing, float trips, office picnics, etc. He loved to go antiquing with Alice as well as traveling and “RV”ing. He had taken each of his grandchildren on their own “special” trip. His hobbies included: playing cards, especially spades and hearts, going to the casino, fishing, particularly at Lake Texoma, playing fast pitch softball; cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers with his sons; but above all he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Alice of 44 years; sons: Brian (Kristina) Root of Noble, Matt (Sara) Root of Norman; grandchildren: Alisha, Kaitlin, Lauren, Alicen, Reagan and Bella; siblings: Peggy (Charles) Stowe of Kingston, OK, Billy Michael (Ginger) Johnson of Azle, TX; mother-in-law: Cherry Kirschner of Norman; and many nieces and nephews; “fur”-children; Ella and Ruby.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother; parents; brother: Don Furbee; father-in-law: Terry Kirschner.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday October 27, 2015 at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N. Porter Ave. Norman, OK. Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday October 28, 2015 at Norman Community Church of the Nazarene, 1801 N Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.Burial will follow at Denver Cemetery, Norman, OK. Pastor Brent Hardesty will officiate.
